Fraternity Motto: What We Stand For

As I have mentioned in previous posts, our fraternity is rich with history dating back to the Civil War. Our Creed has stood just as long, and it is what our nationwide brotherhood abides by. It is entitled "The True Gentleman" By John Walter Wayland, and was written in Virginia in 1899:

The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will and an acute sense of propriety, and who self-control is equal to all emergencies; who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or anyman of his inferiority or deformity; who is himself humbled if necessity compels him to humble another; who does not flatter wealth, cringe before power, or boast of his own possessions or achievements; who speaks with frankness but always with sincerity and sympathy; whose deed follows his word; who thinks of the rights and feelings of others, rather than his own; and who appears well in any company, a man with whom honor sacred and virtue safe.

This grammatically correct single sentence is the guiding spirit of our fraternity, and each line has its own important lesson in living life as a gentleman. If you'd like to get a more in depth description behind the meaning of The True Gentleman,

New Member Education

This past week has been an exciting time for our fraternity, as we welcome eleven new members into our education program. Over the course of the next six weeks, our neophites will explore the depths of a our secret society and develop bonds of brotherhood with our Chapter members. Our fraternity has been in existence for 149 years, and these new members have the distinct honor to be initiated during our 150th year celebration. If there is any interest in viewing what Sigma Alpha Epsilon will be doing for this celebration, please visit our national website! If there is any interest in developing more knowledge on our local chapter please visit our website.

HOMECOMING WEEK!

This week begins the most anticipated and exciting week in the fall semester Homecoming week! The school shows it's pride with banner competitions, pep rallies, football booster events, and greek events. As the Homecoming chair for Sigma Alpha Epsilon I have had a very stressful week planning what will be our most lavish homecoming in years. Thanks to an extremely generous Alumni Donation, we have events planned all week.
This monday we will have a barbeque from 5-7 PM at our house with our sorority of choice, Alpha Xi Delta, followed by a 4-way mixer with Alpha Xi Delta, Chi Omega, and Kappa Alpha. This should be a great kick off to our week! Our next event is not until Thursday, but this is where Homecoming week truly begins. We will have a mixer with Alpha Xi Delta at Gallucio's in Wilmington where great drink specials should make for an interesting evening!
Friday, thanks again to our generous alumni donation, we will have TGIFriday's restuarant cater our barbeque! Last but certainly not least is Homecoming Saturday. Our football team faces off against the Hofstra Pride at 1 PM, but our day begins much earlier! Sigma Alpha Epsilon as well as Alpha Xi Delta will begin tailgating bright and early. After tailgating and watching our UD Blue Hens beat Hofstra, We will return to our Fraternity House where Cleveland subs will be catering yet another barbeque! All in all the work that has been exerted for this week certainly warrants some celebration! GO UD FOOTBALL!
